The evening of May 5th, 2012 ushered in notably massive full moon — a supermoon, it was termed — which swelled in the sky briefly like a great wave the celestial body itself regulates. It beckoned for attention and turned even most grounded of glances slightly skywards, as a reminder, if even for a mere second, of what lies in the great beyond. I am a Sagittarius, and for me, the full moon came embedded with astrological significance; I was told it would be a time for divulging all secrets and hidden concerns, to fortuitous ends. This expectation became not merely hypothetically true, but functionally true, as May 6th began like a clean slate and a notable turning point of mood and of sense. It seemed as though finally, in late spring, I had awoken from the dreary heaviness of a never-ending winter. This mixtape is a celebration of that shift in energy, of moving from listlessness into all things pleased, expansive, energized, and increasingly feminine.
Vivian Hua (華婷婷) wears a lot of random hats, but has somewhat mastered globetrotting like a hobo and evading traditional 9-to-5 work schedules. She enjoys observing human idiosyncrasies perhaps more than anything and is a magnet for homeless people (a joy) and bug bites of all types (absolutely terrible). Through her work, she hopes to embrace the temporary while documenting the nostalgic, using divination and dream symbolism as guides through the cosmic maze. Additional writing, art, video, and other crap, like her astrological chart, can be seen at www.inallthings-patterns.net. She is the Editor-in-Chief of REDEFINE magazine, and quite appreciates unsolicited personal e-mails just to shoot the shit and narrow the gaps between human beings.
