We loved Zola Jesus’ Conatus last year; the record made our all of our year-end lists, including: Albums Of The Year 2011, Top Songs From 2011, and 2011 Year-End Respect For Album Cover Art. If this album cover art for In Your Nature tickles your fancy, you may want to read our interview with photographer Angel Ceballos.

Anyway, it makes a decent amount of sense that our first news post of the year will be about a collaboration between two fan favorites: Zola Jesus and David Lynch. This first ever official remix of a Zola Jesus track is a show of mutual appreciation between the musician and the remixer, and you can compare and contrast the original and remix, embedded from SoundCloud, below.

The remix will be available on the In Your Nature single to be released on February 21 via Sacred Bones Records.

Lifted from the press release:

Mr. Lynch was presented with a copy of Zola Jesus’ 2011 release, Conatus, and handpicked this track to remix. The term “remix”, however, is an understatement here. He rebuilt the track from scratch keeping only her signature vocals in tact; replacing the tension building strings with delicately crafted guitar and drum parts, written and performed by himself and engineer Dean Hurley. What was once a dance track becomes a lurching, cinematic masterpiece. What is left is something perhaps closer to the true nature of Zola Jesus than we had ever envisioned.

Later on in the year, Sacred Bones is also set to reissue a deluxe vinyl version of Lynch’s Eraserhead soundtrack.

Would love to hear what you think.
