Treefort Music Fest 2016 Mixtape (#43) – Boise, Idaho

Treefort is chill as f$%&. It’s an easygoing, grunge-pop party that bubbles over with positive energy. It’s the kind of festival where you can disappear into a dark, loud room to dance your heart out, then emerge to see giant puppets grooving in the sunshine. It’s one big daydream where the mysteries are happy, the faces are friendly, and the strangers are smiling. It’s a festival for local bands to celebrate the scene and a festival touring bands love to kick back at. You’re stoked to discover your new favorite band and you’re comfortable because there’s always a movie screening, poetry reading, or panel discussion when you need to chill. Your mom would love it and your underage sister could see more than half the bands. Anyways, here are some songs that make me feel all that

Vee has two narrative short films. Searching Skies (2017) touches on Syrian refugee resettlement in the United States; with it, they helped co-organize The Seventh Art Stand, a national film and civil rights discussion series against Islamophobia. Reckless Spirits (2022) is a metaphysical, multi-lingual POC buddy comedy for a bleak new era, in anticipation of a feature-length project.

Vee is passionate about cultural space, the environment, and finding ways to covertly and overtly disrupt oppressive structures. They also regularly share observational human stories through their storytelling newsletter, RAMBLIN’ WITH VEE!, and are pursuing a Master’s in Tribal Resource and Environmental Stewardship under the Native American Studies Department at the University of Minnesota.
