I Think I’ve Found My New Favorite Website.

Friday, October 30th, 2009

Yesterday, someone clued me into Broken Picture Telephone, and I think it’s now my new favorite website. Remember playing Telephone as a kid? Remember how convoluted simple ideas got? Now imagine Telephone in visual form. Now imagine Telephone in visual DIGITAL form, and you have Broken Picture Telephone. Nothing short of genius. See an example below that made me literally laugh out loud. Many more gems where this came from. Go sign up and play!

Test Everything Zine

Saturday, June 27th, 2009

Just stumbled across this really awesome zine. Printed in black and white and accented by one color, it’s a zine that features illustrations from low-key artists centered around a central term. For the limited edition zine above, artists created pieces around the sentence, “Don’t worry about the smiles; they’re normal.” Click here to purchase a copy or here to view the spreads on Flickr! Awesome!

Paint My Album Challenges You To Paint Your Favorite Album… In Paint.

Sunday, April 19th, 2009

Talk about an awesome idea for a website, and a perfect thing art/music hybrid project for Redefine to cover: PAINTMYALBUM.NET!

Diarmuid and Anthony, who have a passion (if one can call it that) for redoing classic album covers using Microsoft Paint, are now challenging you to help them reach their goal of redoing 2,000 covers by December 23rd, 2009. The album covers range from completely ridiculous (such as Michael Jackson’s Bad, above) to fairly impressive (such as a rendition of a Flight of the Concords’ disc). Art styles of all types are absolutely welcome, and this duo has their eyes on the prize. Be a good person. Help them fulfill their completely juvenile yet fantastic dream.

Send your album covers to paintmyalbum@gmail.com!

Sculptor Jeff Schomberg’s Colorful Bag Of Tricks.

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Sculptor Jeff Schomberg, Burning Man veteran and art car builder, has a simple, colorful website that cuts the crap and gets straight to the art. His unique style incorporates steel, stone, and found objects to create pieces that are often fun and sometimes reminiscent of nature.

AntiSuccess By H. Mathis Is Confusing.

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

H. Mathis is quite the peculiar artist. He revels in AntiSuccess. He utilizes MySpace to get supplies he needs for art. He puts together secret art meetings (also with the assistance of CraigsList) that are so secretive that I don’t even quite understand them after reading about them in detail (see the beginnings of secret art meeting in the image below).

H. Mathis’ new book and DVD collection, “Super Secret Art Interaction,” is now on sale at Multi Polar Projects. Although I still have no idea as to the exact details of said book and DVD, H. Mathis’ methods of putting together art shows, creating art, and bringing artsy folks together spark curiosity. His art interactions almost entirely rely on the curiosity of others, and they bring art and experimentation out of the galleries and into the streets.

Below is AK, or Alaska, piled with dirt. Strangers off of CraigsList were asked to submit dirt from their hometowns, and they did. The submissions were strained and shown off on cute little sculptures such as the one below.

Head on over to AntiSuccess to dive deeper into the mystery; prepare to be simultaneously elated and confused.

Eatcho’s Website & Threadless T-Shirt!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Eatcho recently sent us an e-mail promoting his new Threadless t-shirt. After some confusion regarding who he was (since his e-mail name was not Eatcho, but “Rilbo Shaggins”), we went to his gorgeously illustrated website, and just had to share its sitemap-driven beauty.

But while we’re at it, let’s promote his Threadless tee design, which features a cross-hatch shaded decapitated head on a happy yellow t-shirt! Morbid, but well-composed… like most of his works.

Sophie Franz - Cool Artist Website Alert!

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

It’s hard to make an artist portfolio website that doesn’t look cookie-cutter and doesn’t feel mechanical. Luckily, Sophie Franz has managed to pull together a simple, effective website to showcase her paintings and drawings. It looks hand-made, but somehow it doesn’t compromise professionalism whatsoever.
