Vivian Hua (華婷婷) wears a lot of random hats, but has somewhat mastered globetrotting like a hobo and evading traditional 9-to-5 work schedules. She enjoys observing human idiosyncrasies perhaps more than anything and is a magnet for homeless people (a joy) and bug bites of all types (absolutely terrible). Through her work, she hopes to embrace the temporary while documenting the nostalgic, using divination and dream symbolism as guides through the cosmic maze. Additional writing, art, video, and other crap, like her astrological chart, can be seen at www.inallthings-patterns.net. She is the Editor-in-Chief of REDEFINE magazine, and quite appreciates unsolicited personal e-mails just to shoot the shit and narrow the gaps between human beings.

Starfucker – Bury Us Alive Music Video

Starfucker works with Joshua Cox on this beauty, taking kaleidoscopic imagery generally manifested through digital means and turning it on an analog head. In what must have been a high-budget, laboriously-planned effort, this video for “Bury Us Alive” sees the appearance of clever special effects and earthy costumes. The team that put this together was...Read...

Mastodon – “Spectrelight” Music Video

Godammit! Yet another kick-ass video from the ever-so-artistically-minded Mastodon. The original cover, which features the 3-dimensional wood-sculptured artwork of Portland-based artist AJ Fosik, is chopped up, mirrored many times over, and shot into outerspace. Expect our interview with AJ Fosik soon! As for the track itself, Scott Kelly of Neurosis offers vocals once again. Says...Read...

Nerves Junior – “Kale” Music Video

I’m into this mopey video full of nonchalant creepers. In this video for “Kale” (which populates the YouTube “Suggestions” sidebar with many a tutorial on the many ways to properly prepare kale), Nerves Junior are the perfect combination of somewhat present and really lethargic. As attractive women climb all over the band members, coyly distracting...Read...

TBA Festival 2011 : tEEth – Home Made Performance Review

tEEth’s Home Made begins with two lovers coddling blissfully beneath a stretched white fabric. Assisted by a flashlight and a hand-held camera, they explore one another by gingerly brushing skin, squeezing folds, and following contours. All signs point to a relationship of pure love and appreciation, with no indicator of roughness save for an occasional...Read...

Prince Rama Tour With Gang Gang Dance, Share New Karaoke Video

Drawing from a collective mine of times and spaces, Prince Rama (made up of sisters Taraka and Nimai Larson) takes the threads of ancient symbolism and ritual and weaves a surreal universe that is wholly their own. Their often-unpredictable live shows graze the space between psychedelic ceremony, performance art and initiation rite. Trust Now, their...Read...

Skate brand Altamont brings Los Angeles’ a one-day event of genre-hopping madness once again! With five stages of music and comedy, there are musical pickins for everyone here, though fans of electronic music and fans of bands of yore should be particularly elated! Death From Above 1979 11:05PM, LEONARDO’S STAGE After reuniting earlier this year,...Read...
