Vivian Hua (華婷婷) wears a lot of random hats, but has somewhat mastered globetrotting like a hobo and evading traditional 9-to-5 work schedules. She enjoys observing human idiosyncrasies perhaps more than anything and is a magnet for homeless people (a joy) and bug bites of all types (absolutely terrible). Through her work, she hopes to embrace the temporary while documenting the nostalgic, using divination and dream symbolism as guides through the cosmic maze. Additional writing, art, video, and other crap, like her astrological chart, can be seen at www.inallthings-patterns.net. She is the Editor-in-Chief of REDEFINE magazine, and quite appreciates unsolicited personal e-mails just to shoot the shit and narrow the gaps between human beings.

Colourmusic – “Beard” Music Video

With extreme macro shots of eyes, mouths, and other indistinguishable slimy body parts, this video for “Beard” leaves one scratching one’s head just as Colourmusic’s style of indie psych-sludge mash-up leaves you scratching your head.

Hospital Ships – “Reprise” Music Video

This video shows kids shuckin’ and jivin’ before the conventions of the world start holdin’ ’em down. Ah, such lovely, humorous purity. It’s almost weirdly poetic set next to this music… who the heck thought of this? From Lonely Twin, out June 7th on Graveface Records.

Timber Timbre – “Woman” Music Video

Watch pasty, emaciated characters doing ambiguous things lethargically and fall into a drug-induced haze! Perfectly fitting for the slowcore music of Timber Timbre. Sprinkle in some Eraserhead vibes, and this is one cryptically engaging creeper. Directed by Kate Young & Eriver Hijano

Sea Of Bees – “Sidepain” Music Video

What I find fascinating about Sea Of Bees’ new video for “Sidepain” is this: it’s not that often you get to study a stranger’s face up-close, particularly in a music video. For half of this video, you get to closely follow around Julie Ann Bee, the creative force behind Sea Of Bees. Insert some friends...Read...

Midday Veil – “Anthem” Music Video

I think my brain waves are rippling in time with the amorphous pustules and static globs of this video. Really, though, I can’t figure out why this is so mesmerizing… there is really nothing incredibly complicated about it, but the soothing qualities of vocalist Emily Pothast’s voice just kind of lullaby me into submission, and...Read...

When Saints Go Machine – “Add Ends” Music Video

Give me anything surrealistic that is remotely well-done, and I will accept! No complaints! That logic in mind, the video for When Saints Go Machine’s “Add Ends” is one I accept, without complaints. A little bit reminiscent of Tim Burton’s film Big Fish, this video similarly contains a central elderly male character, a variety of...Read...
