Odd future, yadda yadda, that's cool and all, but the point of this post is more to share this amazing Little Dragon performance of "Forever" from 2007. Old, sure, but age is made up for by minimalism, beauty, delicacy, endless wonder, etc. etc.

A new Javelin track that's like a spaced-out New York city brand of reggaetón -- but not nearly as annoying as music in that subgenre can often be.
The sound uses sounds sampled from around the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, and I guess it's for a PureVolume-related music series brought to you strangely by ASUS -- a computer hardware company -- and Intel. Everyone's trying to get a bit of the musical pie.

The legendary KATE BUSH releases a brand new studio album 50 Words For Snow on Anti-Records on November 21.
The album features 7 new tracks set against a background of falling snow, with a total running time of 65 minutes; through a highly evocative musical and lyrical landscape this haunting album once again pushes the boundaries.
" I can feel him melting in my hands…."
50 Words For Snow is KATE's second album release of 2011, following Director's Cut which was released in May to massive critical acclaim.
The new album features a small number of special guest musicians including Elton John, Andy Fairweather Low and, on the title track, the British writer/broadcaster/raconteur Stephen Fry.
KATE BUSH has been cited as a huge influence on a range of artists from newcomers like Florence and the Machine and Feist to established artists like Tori Amos and Bjork; she has also been praised by figures as diverse as OutKast, Tricky and Sex Pistol/PIL legend John Lydon who said; "Kate Bush supplies me with all the clues and it's up to me to put the answers together, and that surely is what we are all looking for".
Writing about Director's Cut British rock weekly NME said; ‘Kate Bush is the most influential British female artist ever. No Kate Bush – no PJ Harvey, Cocteau Twins, Bjork, Tori Amos, Joanna Newsome, Goldfrapp, Bat for Lashes; it's not only female solo artists either – Radiohead, Suede and Patrick Wolf are all fans whilst her distinct falsetto is evident in the output of Anthony and the Johnsons".

What's the first thing you think of when someone mentions Thee Oh Sees? Probably their riot-sparking live show, right? Visions of a guitar-chewing, melody-maiming John Dwyer careening across your cranium, rounded out by a wild-eyed wrecking crew that drives every last hook home like it's a nail in the coffin of what you thought it meant to make 21st century rock 'n' roll?
That restlessness extends to everything from the towering, 13-minute title track of 2010's Warm Smile LP to the mercurial moods of 2008's The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In. And then there's the Bay Area band's recent track record, as Thee Oh Sees chased the home-brewed symphonies of Castlemania with the scrappy high wire hooks of Carrion Crawler/ The Dream. Originally envisioned as two EPs, it was cut live to tape in less than a week at Chris Woodhouse's Sacramento studio in June, reflecting the battering ram bent of the band's live show better than any bootleg ever could.
Here is the first "single" from the album: Listen to "Carrion Crawler" - DOWNLOAD MP3
Along with a track from the previously-released Castlemania: Listen to "I Need Seed" - DOWNLOAD MP3
“As I'm sure most would agree,” explains Dwyer, “Castlemania was more of a vocal tirade. This one's meant to pummel and throb.”
That it does, whether you blast the slow, speaker-bruising build of “The Dream,” the sunburnt organs and dovetailing guitars of “Crack In Your Eye,” or the interstellar instrumental that is “Chem-Farmer,” a perfect example of what happens when you take a well-oiled machine—a gang of rabid road warriors, really—and add a second, groove-locked drum set to the mix. To listen is to realize that Dwyer's music is as manic as the underground comic inclinations of his artwork; colorful and confusing in a way that's more than welcome. It's downright refreshing, like a slap in the face at 5 in the morning.
Or as Dwyer puts it, “You have to leave a mark somehow."

In 2008, the Wikipedia page of actor Emile Hirsch informed us that his "band goes by the name of Emil and Friends and is currently touring the United States." Ever a beacon of factual credibility, Wikipedia was innocently reflecting rumors started by one rapscallion, Emil Hewitt, who was the real Emil behind the music, and who had propagated the hoax in a shameless effort to get his music heard.
And the story of Emil & Friends came into our world thusly–via a
fuzzy, falsified connection to a celebrity. Fortunately, the backstory was accompanied by music bright with fresh basslines, colorful guitar riffs and the whimsical charm of Emil’s vocals. Three years and many buzzy HypeMachine remixes later, after moving to New York and refining his sound, Emil has established himself as a riser in the NYC music scene. The artist formerly known as Emile releases his full-length debut Lo And Behold on Cantora Records.
Somewhere at the confluence of Emil’s chief inspirations–Queen, French house music and Timbaland–blended together with his flair for musical theater, he arrives at Lo And Behold, an eccentric musical journey he self-classifies as weird Pop. Beginning to end, the album is deliciously fantastical and schizophrenic, from the loungy banger "C.U.P.I.D." to the dreamy ballad "Prescriptions," to the disco shaker "Raincheck." Emil’s debut is an exotic palette of musical moods, with tracks that sizzle, others that stir, and others still that soothe.

New Orleans-based Sun Hotel have spent the better part of the last two years blazing their own narrative of what it means to be a bona fide rock and roll band – in an era over-congested with charlatanistic pseudo-artists dead set on making indie gold – by applying a punk ethic to the familiar sounds of post-gospel. The four-piece – led by the hauntingly brusque vocals of songwriter Tyler Scurlock – has prided itself on telling a colorfully authentic story of coming-of-age Americana from the unified point of view of a group of young men with a perceptiveness far beyond their years without losing grasp of the fiery, manic creativity that informs every part of their youth.
After self-releasing several digital EP's in late 2009 and early 2010, they, along with best friends and sibling band Caddywhompus, decided to found Chinquapin Records as an avenue to officially manifest their shared appreciation for the infinite creative, artistic and personal rewards to be reaped from operating a purely DIY organization. In the short time since, Chinquapin has become a flourishing center of activity for a modest but growing community of people with the singular goal of creating quality music.
Their latest offering, Gifts (October 11), may prove to be the most earnest quintessence of the uncompromisingly guarded yet wholly collaborative nature of Sun Hotel's songwriting. Suffusing every guitar string, bass rattle and whisper with wave after wave of echo-imbued reverb, in-house living room recording prodigy Ross Farbe manages to balance the pop leanings of the album's infectious hooks with deafening walls of white noise while the concussive rhythms of their multi-percussion setup create a chaotic rumble throughout. Elsewhere, the bass and lead guitar tandem of John St. Cyr and Alex Hertz, respectively, overlay each track's epic structure with a thick, warm tone equal parts nostalgia and melancholy as Scurlock wistfully sings of a subject matter that charmingly belies the raucous, visceral thrill of a live Sun Hotel experience.

Empty Space Orchestra unleashed the impressive instrumental heft of its new Robert Cheek (Deftones, Tera Melos) engineered, Matt Bayles (Mastodon, Pearl Jam, ISIS) mixed self-titled album back in May 2011.
Their recently released self-titled album is a hook-laden marriage of heft and harmony that veers far away from the navel-gazing jamming often associated with music of such explorative origins. Elements of The Mars Volta's most frenetic moments merge with soaring post-rock of Russian Circles, as well as hints of King Crimson, Deftones, Dub Trio and lilting chamber pop all colliding in brilliant synergy from one song to the next.
Now they have released a 2-song, 18inute digital single for FREE download via Bandcamp. GET IT HERE, stream it below, or watch a video for their single, "New Breed Of Skank," at the bottom of the page.
The video clip below is directed by Sean Stout for TerrorEyes, and it features Empty Space Orchestra performing a song from their new Dark Matters EP.
