Asides from a track here or there, I must admit that I find Thursday's music rather atrocious. Hence, I cared not to see
their headlining tour for their latest disc,
Common Existence. Nonetheless, I was already in Detroit covering one
of their opening bands, La Dispute, so I decided to just stay for Thursday's part of the show. And though I still rather
dislike their music, I can't deny that they certainly know how to put on a good show. And their fans are certainly in for
a treat when seeing them.
In fact, the sheer excitement of Thursday's fans is probably one of the best parts about seeing the band live; their fans
are simply hilarious! As if fist pumps weren't enough already, and fist pumps while lip-syncing weren't enough either,
Thursday's fans make sure to throw in wild stomping and dancing, too! Perhaps it's just Detroit fans since The Motor City
is skipped on a lot of bands' tours, but either way, it was an absolute riot.
As for Thursday themselves, part of the reason their fans are so stoked is probably because they're feeding off of the
energy of vocalist Geoff Rickly, who certainly knows how to be a frontman -- almost to the point of hilariousness. He
brings moves suitable for arena-sized venues to mid-sized venues; we're talking mics swinging in the air, shimmying and
swaying, and an insane amount of finger-pointing. He is essentially like a poseable doll that moves from prime photo pose to
prime photo pose, and I can only imagine that all the available photos of him on the planet succeed in capturing his
entertaining, theatrical flamboyance. The rest of the members performed fine and well, too, but in all honesty, I doubt
that many people were looking at them.
