Minmae comes out of Portland with the best of intentions for the state of what is now indie rock: they emulate the greats without being solely copycats of them. Sounding at times like Sonic Youth and at times like Magnetic Fields, these guys cover indie music without adhering to a rigid format. That being said, their sound can seem a bit dated at times, which may turn off the more trendy of indie rockers. The artwork on their album cover puts forth the idea that the band is very much on the poppy side, but that is not entirely the first word that would come to mind.
