The Morning Of

The World As We Know It (Tragic Hero Records)

When you look at this cover, do sugary sweet pop melodies and sickingly cute lyrics come to mind? If they did, you're right on the money, and so is the designer of the album artwork. With lyrics like, "This is the world as we know it. / Let’s stop the pointless fighting and let’s start living and loving," their songs sing like anthems to changing the world in a positive direction. The Morning Of may just be the happiest pop-punk band ever. Are they being naive? Maybe, but it's a little hard to bash a band of young kids who just seem to be enjoying themselves. The pop-punk here is not mind-blowing in any regard, but the multiple vocalists -- male and female -- brings a somewhat new dimension. Some of their tracks are also downright catchy, and again, their optimism is engaging because of its seeming sincerity.
