When We Fall

A Cry For Despair (The Emo Foundation)

The cover art for When We Fall's newest release, A Cry In Despair, screams that the band is full of mediocrity. It seems like the same thing I've seen time and time again -- black wings on a cloaked figure (kind of cloaked, I should say), with an ominous sky behind him. This is not to say the album artwork doesn't look good, however. The photography work and manipulation are actually tastefully done, particularly the steam rising up off the wings of the person in the foreground. Although the album artwork would do better off without the winged person, the muted colors and composition as a whole pair up with the album well.

Despite being Swedish (if that really means anything), the band sounds like any other American hardcore, although it brings with it a good amount of angst and personality. In all honesty, the angst and personality is probably the only thing that saves this band from being tossed in the trash bin. It has a good amount of the "punk" remnants that much of modern day hardcore seems to lack, and that alone makes this EP worthwhile to those who are into this scene.

janice rated this a B on August 27, 2007:

i love listening to this album. i actually found the album work to be kind of corny, actually and cliche but i think the colors are really great. and i like the stink lines. but the cover doesn't really matter because the music is just spot on.
